DVSA recorded 44,554 car theory tests at Bristol between April 2025 and March 2026, of which 21,783 were passes and 22,771 were fails. The pass rate was 48.89%, against 44.84% across Great Britain. That is the 40th highest pass rate of the 165 centres with enough tests to compare, and 13th of 22 in the South West. Bristol is one of the busiest theory test centres in Great Britain, handling about 3,713 sittings in an average month.
Month to month the rate moves about. February 2026 was the strongest month here at 52.0%, May 2025 the weakest at 45.8%, and March 2026 the busiest with 4,566 sittings. A swing of 6.2 points across one year is normal in a sample this size and is not a reason to time a booking.
Against 2024/25 the rate held roughly level, from 48.94% to 48.89%. DVSA has published 12 years for this centre. Back in 2007/08 the rate was 65.58%, so today's fee bill per pass is £11.97 higher than the same £23 fee would have produced then, purely because the pass rate has fallen 16.7 points.

One retake buys nothing
A second sitting is another full £23. There is no retake discount. The official DVSA revision app is £4.99, so a retake costs about 5 times as much as the thing that would have prevented it.
