Of the 75,311 car theory tests sat at Glasgow in the year to March 2026, 33,242 ended in a pass and 42,069 in a fail. 44.14% is 0.70 points below the 44.84% national figure. That is the 110th highest pass rate of the 165 centres with enough tests to compare, and 18th of 26 in Scotland. Glasgow is one of the busiest theory test centres in Great Britain, handling about 6,276 sittings in an average month.
The theory test fee is £23 at every centre in Great Britain, so what changes from place to place is not the price of one sitting but how many sittings a licence takes. Every theory pass here takes 2.27 sittings on average, so £52.11 of DVSA fees, within pennies of the £51.29 national figure. The 42,069 fails at Glasgow last year came to £968k in fees paid for tests that had to be taken again, out of £1.7m taken at this centre in total.
The recorded gender split separates the two groups at Glasgow: 46.81% for the 34,122 tests sat by women and 41.92% for the 41,189 sat by men, against a national gap of 4.20 points. That works out at roughly £5.73 of fee difference per licence.

Back in 2007/08 the rate was 68.13%, so today's fee bill per pass is £18.35 higher than the same £23 fee would have produced then, purely because the pass rate has fallen 24.0 points.
The nearest other theory centre is Dumbarton, about 14 miles away, where the rate was 42.48%. Stirling, 21 miles out, is the strongest of the five nearest at 45.66%, a difference worth £1.74 per pass on paper, and still not worth the journey. The questions, the clips and the pass mark are set nationally and do not vary by building, so a centre's rate describes the people who booked there rather than the difficulty of the test.
The lever a candidate actually controls is revision, not location. At £23 a sitting, a single failed attempt costs more than the £4.99 official app and the £15 book put together, and the £52.11 of fees a pass takes at Glasgow is 3.5% of the £1,470 minimum cost of learning to drive on this site's Scotland lesson band. There is also a clock: a theory pass is valid for 2 years, and letting it lapse before the practical means paying the £23 again from scratch.

Sittings per pass is tests conducted divided by passes, so it counts everyone who sat at this centre, including repeat attempts. Fees per pass is that figure multiplied by the £23 DVSA fee. The fee is ours, from the fee page; the counts are DVSA's.
One retake buys nothing
A second sitting is another full £23. There is no retake discount. The official DVSA revision app is £4.99, so a retake costs about 5 times as much as the thing that would have prevented it.
